DOOM has been hit with the 'Ultimate' update! Update 6.66 is bringing a bunch of new features to the game and has officially retired the Season Pass for DOOM, making all of the multiplayer DLC content free for everyone.
With Update 6.66, players will be able to access all three multiplayer DLC packs, which include nine maps, three additional guns, three additional playable demons, new equipment, armor sets and more! On top of that, the update will change how players unlock additional guns, demons, equipment and all of the player and weapon customization options with a new multiplayer progression system.
No longer will DOOM rely on a random unlock system! Now, unlocks will come through specific leveling requirements or in-game challenges. This change will affect everyone, including veteran players. Bethesda isn't forgetting about those that purchased DLC though, those veterans can look forward to the following decision:
"All veteran players will have the option to completely reset their unlock progression items and experience the new progression system fresh, OR retain all of their existing guns, equipment, demons and customization unlocks that they’ve acquired or purchased and then unlock the remaining items through the revised progression system. Regardless of whether you keep your gear or choose to re-earn it, we’re giving all veteran players a special badge recognizing their previous experience in the game. For those elite few who have achieved the max Slayer level, we’ve designated a special Slayer badge for you."
Update 6.66 will also bring a new Rune System, better player information, and an overhauled UI.
The Hack Module System has been replaced with an all-new Runes System, which works like the Runes system from the DOOM campaign. In multiplayer, Runes are now persistent player abilities earned and included in a player loadout. Unlock the Hack Modules, Runes do not need to be activated and do not expire.
The HUD has been improved to include better callouts for challenges, awards, and scoring. Specifically, the kill card has been revised to provide more accurate information on their demise, including who killed them, as well as that player's weapon type and damage that combined to kill them.
The UI will now show off better post-match summaries, player status in lobbies, new progression options/status, and better outline weapon, equipment and demon characteristics.
On top of all that, DOOM will be free to play on Xbox One and PC this weekend starting July 20th at 12PM ET on Xbox One, 1PM ET on PC and will have a free weekend on PS4 starting July 27th. The free weekend comes with access to two levels of DOOM's campaign, Arcade Mode and unlimited access in multiplayer and SnapMap modes.
The free-to-play weekend will also reduce the game's price to $14.99 (US) / £11.99 (UK) / $17.99 (AUS) (digital purchase only).
