Driveclub’s Club system, Face-offs and Challenges explained in two new videos

Since its announcement, Evolution Studios has touted Driveclub as this sort-of connected racing game aiming to bring friends, and even strangers for that matter, close together. "From the hardest of the hardcore, to the occasional player, it’s you and your five mates against the world. Driving together to win together," says game director Raul Rustchynsky.

And how they get you together is, as the name of the game suggests, through Clubs. The first video details the premise of Clubs and how they work. A Club is basically a group of races that play together to build a "strong reputation" by racing. Basically, you are going to race to achieve goals to earns your Club accolades which, in turn, builds reputation through fame.

The second video highlights two ways to earn those accolades: Face-offs and Challenges. Rather than simply race to the finish line, each portion of a track in Driveclub offers you a new opportunity to earn fame and glory for your Club through unique challenges called Face-off. Driveclub will record performance data of all of your competition and when you perform a section better than any other racer you'll earn fame for yourself and your Club. Judging by the video, there seems to be quite a variety of challenges that will be thrown at you.

Driveclub is due out for PS4 on October 7. A PlayStation Plus Edition of the game will be released on the same day for free for those with a PlayStation Plus subscription. This version includes all of the game modes, but only offers one location (India), 11 tracks, and 10 cars. For $49.99, PS Plus members can upgrade this free version to the full version which unlocks five locations 55 tracks, 50 cars, and all 50 tour events.
