Super Battle Opera qualifiers in NYC for the first time
The Super Battle Opera series is Japan’s largest fighting game tournament, and aside from EVO, is the biggest international Street Fighter tournament of the year. Typically, this is an invite only tournament so very few US players get invited. However, for the first time ever, qualifiers are being held tomorrow in New York – 2 tournaments will be held back to back with the winner of each one qualifying for the 2 man team to head to Japan. Not only will they win the chance to compete in the SBO, but any entry fees into the tournament will be used to help pay for travel expenses for the winning players. Tournament Format:
Double Elimination (Character lock, 2/3 rounds, 2/3 games, only grand finals is 3/5)
* There will be 2 separate SSF4 Arcade Edition singles tournament (Capped at 64 players per tournament, “first come first serve bases”), each culminating with the winner qualifying for a spot on the 2v2 team.
* Whomever wins the first qualifying spot, the character used will not be permitted for the second tournament.
* You MUST enter the first tournament in order to participate in the second tournament.
Venue Fee: $10 (one time fee for all entrants/spectators)
Spectators Fee: $6
Entry Fee: $25 per tournament (100% of all entry will go towards airfare for the 2 winners)
* You must bring a VALID US Passport or proof of a pending US Passport in order to enter the tournament
Prizes: Sponsorship for the 2 winners to SBO in Japan.

Reminder: European Battle.net tournament starts tomorrow
Don’t forget – the European Battle.net tournaments start tomorrow in Starcraft 2 and World of Warcraft respectively. Blizzard will be running a live stream of the festivities for free on the European battle.net site, located here (http://eu.battle.net/blizzcon/en/tournaments/eu-regionals/). Things kick off at 12:00 PM CEST, or 5AM EST. I know, it’s early, but if you happen to be awake, be sure to catch it.
Rumor: League of Legends to be featured at MLG Raleigh?
Earlier last month, the head of the MLG reportedly tweeted that he wished to include League of Legends in the tournament games at MLG Raleigh. This would be great news for the community, but there’s been no official announcement from MLG as of yet, and the late August tournament is fast approaching – one has to wonder if they ran into complications in acquiring a license from Riot Games or if they are just simply having logistic problems. Twitch TV announces new way for Vodcasters, streamers to make money
TwitchTV, Justin.tv’s gaming section of the streaming website, has announced a new way for popular streamers and VODcasters to make a bit of extra cash on the side. For anyone with over 4000 followers, 800,000 total channel views or 60,000 concurrent viewers, TwitchTV will sell ads on your stream. Yes, this sounds like a bad thing, but for every ad they sell, they split the money with the caster. This is a great boon for the scene as it funnels money into content providers, such as tournament organizers, gaming teams, professional shoutcasters and other gaming organizations – leaving them more time to bring you content and possibly able to do it as a living (rather than working that lame day job).

The crowd goes NUTS when Daigo gets eliminated – that marked the first time that Daigo did NOT make top 3 in an EVO tournament.
