EA announces more layoffs, this time it’s Mobile Montreal

Fresh off winning the "Worst Company in America" poll for the second year in a row, Electronics Arts has reported another round of layoffs today. This time, it was EA Mobile Montreal that was hit. EA has refrained from sharing specific details as to how many employees or studios have been affected, but early reports indicate that between 250 and 300 employees of EA Mobile Montreal, including the quality assurance team and all developers, were let go.

EA is sharpening its focus to provide games for new platforms and mobile. In some cases, this involves reducing team sizes as we evolve into a more efficient organization. These are difficult decisions to let go of good people who have made important contributions to EA, and whenever possible we retrain or relocate employees to new roles. Streamlining our operations will help ensure EA is bringing the best next-generation games to players around the world.
