EA’s Firemint and IronMonkey merge into new mobile studio

Electronic Arts announced today that two of its internal mobile studios, Firemint and IronMonkey Studios, have merged into one new company called Firemonkeys, the largest game development studio in Australia.

IronMonkey is recognizable for developing the iOS version of Dead Space, while Firemint worked on the multi-platform game Flight Control and the iOS title Real Racing.

With the merger, EA intends to assemble a more focused team. The studios will continue to work on separate projects, but will now collaborate work on new games out of the EA Melbourne office in Australia.

EA closed one of its Melbourne-based studios, Dead Space contributor Visceral Melbourne, at the end of last year, after a project that had been in development for three years was canceled.
