Temper your excitement for Visceral Games' new Star Wars game; it's still a "few years away," according to Electronic Arts.
Speaking to shareholders in the company's Q3 2016 earnigns call, EA CFO Blake Jorgensen was asked how important it was to reduce "less profitable or non-profitable titles" in the company's portfolio. He went on to explain that the company is investigating in "some action-based" games, even bringing up new additions Jade Raymond and Amy Hennig. The latter, of course, joining Visceral Games as creative director for a new Star Wars game.
In talking about the company's future in action titles, Jorgensen may have inadvertently revealed the estimated release timing for Visceral's currently unannounced Star Wars game, which is also rumored to be open-world.
Here's what he said:
"We are down to less than 15 major SKUs. And that feels like a good size of the business and we are obviously announcing that we are investing in some action-based SKUs by bringing people like Jade Raymond and Amy Henning into our organization to help build those. And those are obviously a few years out in our SKU plan."
Other than rumors of EA working on an open-world RPG set in the Star Wars universe — which we're not entirely sure if that's Visceral's project — not much is known about the publisher's plans for the Star Wars franchise. What we do know, however, is that EA has robust DLC plans for DICE's Star Wars Battlefront.
Meanwhile, I'm still hoping for them to revive Star Wars 1313.
