EA is going to keep pushing the envelope when it comes to new games. They don't want to be stagnant and just stick with the same old franchises. They want to create. With new games for franchises like The Sims, Need for Speed, Battlefield and FIFA on the way, Titanfall is the only new IP for EA — but it's a heavy hitter.
Speaking with MCV, EA Games chief Patrick Soderlund wanted to assure gamers that EA is working on new ideas and IPs, using Star Wars and Mirror's Edge 2 as proof that EA is still taking risks and trying out new things. He said, "We are working on a new Mirror's Edge game, and although that's not a new IP, it is a revival done in a new way. We are developing Star Wars Battlefront, which to us is a new IP, even though it isn't technically.
"We have six to eight completely new IPs in the works. The day we stop making new IP is when we go onto life support. We need to incubate new ideas and push creative boundaries."
For as much flack as Electronic Arts constantly gets, they push out a log of games that I enjoy. Yea, there's a lot of sequels in there, but what publisher isn't doing that? Just look at Ubisoft. With a brand new console generation two months away, I'm looking forward to the new ideas EA has.
