The Wii will always be known for having alienated third-party developers. So far, the Wii U doesn't seem to be going down that same path because a handful of third-party companies have already expressed their excitement for Nintendo's upcoming console. The latest praise toward the Wii U was brought on by EA CEO John Riccitiello, who added to the support the company showed at this year's E3.
"It's a high definition platform and I love the controller," Riccitiello told IndustryGamers. "I just think it's cool. You're a gamer—so you've got the screen here [in your hands] and you've got the [TV] screen there, and you've got full control."
Riccitiello also expressed how he felt about motion gaming, saying it was a great idea but not necessarily for him. "Personally, while there's some great experiences on Move, and there's some great experiences on Kinect, I'm not a motion control guy," admitted the EA head. "It's still too imprecise for me. I like shooting something and hitting it. I like turning a corner and feeling precision."
Like other developers have also stressed, Riccitiello stated that the Wii U controller's screen is an impressive addition, and he genuinely believes that "there is something about that second screen that transcends anything I've ever done before." With a second screen right on the controller, the CEO thinks that a lot of gaming experiences will be enhanced because actions that would normally be performed by pausing the game will be carried out in real-time during gameplay.
It's interesting that analysts and even gamers have already bashed the Wii U for coming out "too late." From what developers have been saying, the machine has a ton of potential, and numerous teams are eager to work with the hardware. Let's hope this dedication provides a stellar console for gamers to enjoy when Nintendo finally launches the Wii U.
