For years, a sequel to Ridley Scott's classic noir sci-fi flick, Blade Runner, has been in development. Various ideas have been scrapped but now, roughly two years before the first movie actually takes place, we're getting the long-awaited sequel. Blade Runner 2049 will be directed by the highly acclaimed director Denis Villeneuve who has helmed films like Prisoners, Arrival, Sicario, Enemy, and more. The director clearly has talent but up until now, he's never touched an established IP.
The film follows a young blade runner named K (Ryan Gosling) who unearths a major secret that could change society as we know it. K then sets out to find former blade runner, Rick Deckard (Harrison Ford), who has been missing for 30 years. The rest of the movie has been shrouded in secrecy for many months, not even the cast or crew are willing to divulge any sort of plot details so no one really knows what to expect!
With sequels of this scale, sometimes viewers can be left disappointed and wanting more than what they were given. Luckily, early reactions from members of the press who have seen the movie are praising Blade Runner 2049 for its incredible eye-popping visuals and its excellent storytelling filled with mystery. You can check out some tweets about the movie below. The embargo for full reviews lifts on October 2nd at 9 AM eastern time.

I think this Blade Runner is better than the original, and also proves Denis Villeneuve is the most exciting director working right now

And best of all, #BladeRunner2049 feels like it was made in the same world. Like they traveled back there to film it. Nailed the aesthetic.

Denis Villeneuve is unquestionably one of the elite working directors & there's no excuse if Deakins doesn't win the Oscar #BladeRunner2049
