When Nintendo surprise announced the SNES Classic dirty eBay scammers started lining up and posting listings for the platform that was not yet available for pre-order. Since the announcement, the SNES Classic has seen a staggered release across the world, but North America has yet to see any pre-orders open up (there's a theory about why).
While pre-orders for the SNES Classic have been selling out and other regions sit around waiting for the device to go on sale, the eBay listings for the console have vanished.
According to a representative from eBay, the listings were deleted as per marketplace's policy. Apparently, you can only list something on eBay when the release date for an item is less than (or equal to) 30 days away.
"We will remove listing for pre-release items and accessories if the release date of the item is more than 30 days away."
Basically, that means that those sheisty scalpers will make a return when the SNES Classic's release date gets closer. The mini 16-bit system will be releasing on September 29th, with 21 games, including the unreleased Star Fox 2 – so those scalpers will be back in business by August 29th.
