Elite: Dangerous Debuts on PS4 in June, Developer Shares Favorite Games

Elite: Dangerous is a beautiful space sim from Frontier Developments that was original only on PC. A much slower game than some may be used to, Elite: Dangerous is a very immerseive experience that makes players really feel like they're a space freighter/dog fighter/etc. Now this experience is finally coming to PlayStation 4.

Fans of space sims particularly took to Elite: Dangerous due to its immersion and it's visuals. In fact, there was alien life in the game that no users knew about until someone actually discovered it, much like real alien discovery would happen. To couple the announcement of console release, developer David Braben went to the PlayStation blog to share his thoughts on video games of the past and what inspired him while working on Elite: Dangerous.

His first game he remembers playing is Space Invaders in 1978. " t had a black and white screen with a coloured overlay across the display to make it appear in colour. I remember well the initial compulsion to get further each time, and then the annoyance at the rapid rise of difficulty as the game progressed – particularly as it was 10p a try!"

He also noted that Gang Beasts, an indie game currently in Early Access on Steam, was noted as the the last game to make him rethink the medium of video games.

"It’s a brawler with eight-player local co-op, but the sheer fun is the party nature of it – it’s basically a drunken brawler. It reminds me of the early days of gaming – a time that we’ve maybe lost."

Elite: Dangerous will launch on PlayStation 4 on both retail and digital markets on June 27. Pre-orders begin May 30.
