EPIC Games Seattle hires new general manager

It’s not too often that a single developer maintains a spotlight in our busy industry, but EPIC Games has done just that. The past few weeks have been focused on Microsoft’s first-party developer, including the departure of the nitrous Cliff Bleszinski, and now the announcement of EPIC Games Seattle’s new general manager, Laura Fryer. Fryer, who comes to EPIC’s Seattle offices from WB Games Seattle where she spent four years managing various internal studios, is a 17 year veteran in the videogame industry, including a long stint with Microsoft.

While at Microsoft, Fryer played a key role in Xbox Developer Support, helped launch XNA, created the Xbox Advisory Board, was involved in various Xbox developer events, and served as Microsoft Games Studios’ executive producer of both Gears of War and Gears of War 2.

Fryer’s Seattle position will put her in direct control of engineering and supporting of EPIC’s Unreal Engine 4, which is rumored to be working next-generation-minded. Her public relations with both Microsoft and the rest of the industry should suit her quite well as she takes over a familiar branch that’s vital for bringing a number of next-generation experiences.
