Epic Games is aiming for a million players on the Gears of War 3 beta that kicks off later this month. Executive Producer Rod Fergusson told CVG that Epic isn’t trying to set any records, but they are hoping for a massive turnout with the first ever Gears of War beta.
“I don’t know if we necessarily have a target but our expectation is around the one million range–that’s what we’re thinking,” he said. “We’re not trying to set any records, we’re not trying to beat anybody for highest number of players on a beta–we’re just trying to get enough data to help us make a better game.”
The Gears of War 3 beta opens roughly two weeks from now for Bulletstorm: Epic Edition owners and three weeks for those who pre-order the full game through selected retail outlets. It’s the first time that Epic has put out a beta for a Gears game, and fans can credit the disastrous Gears of War 2 launch for the implementation.
Beta testers will get access to three game modes, including the highly anticipated Team Deathmatch and four brand new maps. All of the curb stomping, chainsaw bull-rushing action will go down on dedicated servers, too. Don’t forget that the beta comes with a bunch of exclusive unlocks, such as Thrashball Cole, a Flaming Gnasher Shotgun, and a Golden Retro Lancer following the completion of challenges.
