Every Nintendo Switch has a hidden copy of NES Golf installed on it, how you access it will hit you in the feels

Over the weekend, rumblings of a hidden copy of NES Golf were making their rounds in circles across the internet. It seemed pretty farfetched since Nintendo hasn't yet brought Virtual Console to the Switch, but evidence has mounted that the story is indeed true. Back in July, the folks over at SwitchBrew.org discovered a file inside the Switch called "flog," which is said to be an NES Emulator that has been installed on the console since launch.

An update on the SwitchBrew page popped up on Saturday, which revealed some rather incredible details. Not only was the NES Emulator installed, but it also contained a copy of NES Golf (flog is golf backwards), which could only be triggered under some particular but very referential circumstances. The big detail is that unlocking NES Golf involves the user performing the gesture that the late Nintendo President Saturo Iwata always used to do on Nintendo Directs.

While it's an incredible nod to Iwata, unfortunately unlocking the game is not as simple as just that. The system date must also be set to July 11th (the date of Iwata's death), and your console can't have any system updates installed.

Just wow. For fans of Nintendo, this is undoubtedly one of the most remarkable little details that has ever been put into a console. Seriously, this is one giant Chuck Norris-sized roundhouse kick to the feels. Well done, Nintendo.
