Witcher 3 is set to release on the PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on May 19th.

In order to keep this post as concise as possible, we will sum up certain features and link to further details.

First and Foremost

Our review round-up made something very clear: everyone loves the Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. Of course look out for our review of the game closer to the game's launch.

Day One Patch + Resolution

CD Projekt RED (CDPR) revealed that there will be a day one patch for Witcher 3. The patch will optimize gameplay on the Xbox One by scaling the resolution from 900p to 1080p. The PlayStation 4 verison is 1080p and the PC supports up to 4000K. This patch will also hopefully fix some of the framerate issues found on the console versions.

DLC

We remember the time when add-on disks truly expanded games by delivering meaningful content. As gamers, we’d like to bring that back. – CDPR

Yes, there will be DLC and yes, developer CDPR announced their DLC plans ahead of launch. CDPR is taking a stand against the current trend of DLC and will be offering both free and paid content for Witcher 3 owners. With its paid DLC, CDPR hopes to add content that doesn't mirror current DLC for games, but rather expansions of old, meaning providing a sizeable chunk of gameplay.

  • Expansion Pass
    • The Expansion Pass will feature two expansions to Witcher 3:  Hearts of Stone, and Blood and Wine. Both expansions will add a considerable amount of hours/content to the game and is priced at $24.99.
  • Free DLC
    • CDPR's CEO wrote a heartfelt open letter to fans about their approach to DLC, it shows that they really care about the people that will be supporting their game. Because they love their fans so much they will be giving 16 pieces of DLC for free.
