Ports are nice, but HD treatments — those can make up for years without one of the most fan-demanded remakes ever.
Well, almost.
Final Fantasy 7 and 8 are coming to PC with high-end graphics, according to Japanese magazine Famitsu. So far this is a Japan-only announcement, and a release date has yet to be confirmed.
Square Enix is already working on HD releases of the PlayStation 2 games Final Fantasy 10 and 10-2 for North America, so these would make great companions. We'll have to wait to see if the company brings the other two titles to the West.
Final Fantasy 7 returned to PC not too long ago (its first trip to the platform happened in 1998), adding achievements and cloud saves, but it did not come with graphical improvements. Final Fantasy 8 found its way to computers in 2000 — but again, not in HD.
Obviously, Square Enix hasn't forgotten about these classics if it's honoring them with HD upgrades, but it probably won't be making that Final Fantasy 7 remake you want anytime soon.
