Yasumi Matsuno, the game designer responsible for titles such as Final Fantasy Tactics and Vagrant Story, launched a Kickstarter campaign today for a new tactical role-playing game called Unsung Story: Tale of the Guardians.
If funded, the tactical RPG will release for iOS, Android, PC, Mac, and Windows tablets in 2015 — or just iOS and Android if the Kickstarter fails.
Matsuno co-launched the crowdfunding project with indie developer Playdek, which specializes in bringing tabletop gaming to iOS devices. The developers are hoping to raise $600,000, which should be relatively easy to achieve given their influence in the industry. Over 2,000 backers have already pledged over $85,000. A whole month remains to hit the rest of the target.
Matsuno and Playdek have already set up a number of stretch goals, including PlayStation Vita and 3DS releases, additional modes, co-op play, and even a live concert by famous game composer Hitoshi Sakimoto.
The developers are also planning two card games set in the same world: The first serves as a prequel (due later this year), and the other will release last, with Unsung Story team member Christophe Boelinger as designer.
