Final Fantasy XV has received a number of expansions since its release last year, and this has kept it in the spotlight as each expansion expands the story of Noctis and his team. However, the next expansion aims to do more.
Titled Comrades, the new expansion takes Final Fantasy XV online in a multiplayer space. Unlike an MMO like Final Fantasy XIV, Comrades seems to take a more Grand Theft Auto V approach, making it a simulation of life in the Final Fantasy XV world where the main title's mechanics are expanded.
Light spoilers: Vague reference to a part of the story without context.
On October 31 when Comrades launches, players will assume the role of a Kingsglaive survivor who sets out to find out more about the disappearance of Noctis in Chapter 13 of the main title.
Set in a world engulfed by darkness, the expansion casts players as a member of the Kingsglaive, with powers and unique abilities invoked from various Lucian kings, who join forces to bring the Light back to the kingdom of Lucis. Other members of Noctis’s crew including Gladiolus, Prompto and Ignis will be made playable in future game updates."
The expansion will be available for free for Season Pass holders, and available for purchase for others. While the game is planned to release on PC in early 2018, there's no word on Comrades on PC, although it's likely to be ported with the rest of the game.
