During today's Nintendo Direct, Nintendo announced how amiibo will be used in the upcoming turn-based strategy game, Codename S.T.E.A.M.
Amiibo of Fire Emblem characters — Ike, Lucina, Marth and Robin — will unlock the corresponding characters in Codename S.T.E.A.M. Players will not be able to revive these amiibo characters if they are defeated in battle. Instead, each fallen amiibo ally can rejoin the roster after the battle by placing the amiibo back on the NFC of the 3DS XL.
In preparation, Nintendo will be restocking Marth amiibo at retailers, and Ike is coming in Wave 3 this February. The amiibo for Robin and Lucina are releasing this Spring with Wave 4.
In Codename S.T.E.A.M., Ike uses his blessed blade to attack with shockwaves, or he can equip an axe for combat. Marth uses the sacred sword Falchion or a rapier to attack. He also has the special ability Lode Star to heal damage.
In Codename S.T.E.A.M., you have an elite team of steam-powered special forces soldiers to save the world from an alien attack. In a blend of action and strategy, you use steam power stored in special backpacks to move into position and fire your weapons. You pick a team, their load out and decide on the right strategy in this steampunk-inspired game.
Codename S.T.E.A.M. releases on March 13, 2015.
