Growing up, Pete's Dragon was one of my absolute favorite films. Though it's quite dated now, the 1977 musical adventure blended live-action with animation to tell the adorable story about a young oprhan boy (Pete) and his magical dragon best friend (Elliot). In case you haven't heard, Disney is rebooting Pete's Dragon, and today the company unveiled the first teaser trailer.
As you can see, the same premise — a boy and his dragon friend on an adventure — still exists, but it appears Disney has updated the concept to meet today's standards. The tone immediately appears similar to Disney's other live-action adaptations of classic stories, but there's something truly magical about this one.
There's a sense of mystery and wondrous intrigue as the story of Pete and his "invisible" dragon exists as a myth to the folks in town — specifically a park ranger (Bryce Dallas Howard) and her father (Robert Redford) who are about to find themselves mixed up in a fantastic adventure.
Check out the trailer for Pete's Dragon above, and get ready for the adventure on August 12, 2016.
