First Steam Software titles to launch September 5

Steam, Valve's popular digital distribution platform, is about to expand beyond video games. Valve, who are also the creators of games like Counter-Strike, Half-Life, and Team Fortress, announced today that the first set of Software titles will be heading to Steam in the fall.

The Software titles will range from "creativity to productivity" with many of the launch titles taking advantage of Steamworks useful features like easy installation, automatic updating, and the ability to save your work to your personal Steam Cloud space so you can access your important files on-the-go.

"The 40 million gamers frequenting Steam are interested in more than playing games," said Mark Richardson at Valve. "They have told us they would like to have more of their software on Steam, so this expansion is in response to those customer requests."

The initial batch of software will launch on September 5 followed by the addition of more Software titles in "ongoing fashion". Developers will be able to submit Software titles through Steam Greenlight.
