Crytek has recently gone through some dramatic changes… in the form of closing all but two of their studios. But when one door closes, another opens, even if it's not for Crytek themselves.
The Former leads of Crytek Black Sea have founded a brand new independent studio named Black Sea Games. Running out of Sofia, Bulgaria, the new studio is already working on a new project, though no details have been released as of yet. It's lead by Managing Director Vasselin Handjiev and Technical Director Michael Peykov.
While there are no new details on their project, they have already released a mission statement:
“Black Sea Games Ltd. is an independent game development company based in Sofia, Bulgaria, founded in November 2016. Our mission is to create hard-core games that will entertain you over and over again. We believe the best gaming experiences are coming from challenging the players with meaningful choices, while giving them the freedom to create (and share) their own in-game stories. Whether it is a “sandbox” or an “open world”, these are just words.”
The fact that they have a registered company name, employees on board and a fully realized mission statement could only mean good things for this new transition. Some may be disheartened by the collapse of Crytek, but creative minds like those at Black Sea Games still thrive in the wake of a would-be disaster.
