Former LucasArts devs make big progress on retro 3D side-scroller, Super Roman Conquest

You may recall last year we wrote about Super Roman Conquest, a retro side-scrolling strategy game being developed by former LucasArts devs Matt Boland (a Star Wars 1313 designer) and Tim Temmerman (a Star Wars: First Assault systems designer).

When we last saw the game the core mechanics and concept were in place. It takes place in a multi-layered, 3D world set in Ancient Rome with a goal to "blend the nostalgia of our formative PC-gaming past with modern RTS design elements and a meta-game progression reminiscent of our favorite indie strategy games like FTL."  However, as the game was still looking for funding via Kickstarter, much of the art assets were merely placeholders.

Now, several months later, the guys are back to update us on the development of Super Roman Conquest, while showing us some of the new work done by two new artists — Bandygrass who has become the top character animator on the project and "has contributed to the look of every unit in the game," and Environment Artist Alex "Cannonbreed" who "has done great work making the pixel environments come to life."

With everything seemingly starting to come together, the big push right now is on Super Roman Conquest's Steam Greenlight campaign which you can learn more about here.
