Developer Naughty Dog isn't one to tip its hat when it comes to new or unannounced projects, but the CV of former lead character artist could indicate that the studio is more serious about a sequel to The Last of Us than they've let on.
The LinkedIn profile of Michael Knowland, who now works as a Seinor Character Artist for Avalance Studios, reveals that towards the end of his time at Naughty Dog (April 2014), he spent one month prototyping head sculpts for The Last of Us 2.
Sure, it may not be confirmation that sequel is in the works, but it's the first proof we've seen that Naughty Dog is doing more than just talking about the possibility of a sequel.
Given the critical and commercial success of The Last of Us, a sequel probably wouldn't surprise anybody, but Naughty Dog has maintained that they would only create a sequel if there was a story "that's really worth telling." For what it's worth, The Last of Us' creative director Neil Druckmann said earlier this year that he does still have a script written about Ellie's mom that was originally intended as an animated short. It unfortunately fell through, but Druckmann did say he'd love for it to someday see the light of day.
One of the two development teams at Naughty Dog is working on Uncharted 4: A Thief's End, but the work of the second team is still unknown.
Would you like to see a sequel to The Last of Us?
