Fox orders pilot for X-men TV series

With Legion debuting on Fx in February, the Fox network has also officially ordered a pilot for the other X-men TV series Marvel has been trying bring to fruition.

This will be more closely tied to the current X-Men universe as Legion is within its own. In this series, two parents discover their child is a mutant and must hide from the government. They are met by an underground group of mutants and must fight back in order to survive. The Legion creator Noah Hawley spoke with Variety about the new series, and indicated that

“With the X-Men comics, there are a lot of alt universes, so that has allowed me some leeway,. And obviously it’s a sort of origin story for David, but none of the other characters that I’ve surrounded him with are from the comics. It’s sort of an invented world.”

There is still no title known for the series, but we do know from a recent interview that there will be sentinels in the show. We'll have to see how the pilot goes before we can tell if Fox will order a full series lineup, but with the X-Men franchise reputation behind it, I figure it will be ok. Its counterpart Legion debuts on FX February 8th.
