Gaijin Entertainment chooses
LifeStudio:HEAD technology
July 8th, 2003 – Californian
developer LifeMode Interactive announces that Russian based game developer
Gaijin Entertainment has chosen to use it’s innovative real-time facial
animation technology solution ‘LifeStudio:HEAD’.
LifeStudio:HEAD SDK is a high tech
software developer kit that allows 3D artists to create next generation games,
that combine automated lip-synch with nonlinear facial animation in real-time.
Due to its sophisticated technology it is possible to overlay lip-synch with
different emotions depending of AI commands in the game run-time, exchange of
animations between different head models, use semi-transparent and dynamic
textures, and automatically change level details of models.
Gaijin Entertainment plans to
implement LifeStudio:HEAD SDK in a new game developed by the company. The game
is based on Dagor Engine, an own development of Gaijin Entertainment. The engine
is a real game development solution that contains original technologies for
quick creation of high-quality game levels and realistic environments. Moreover
the engine uses all the technical advantages provided by high-end 3D
accelerators.
An excellent combination of two
cutting edge technologies should result in an important time saving for
development and creation of the game with an exceptional level of realism and
interactivity. Therefore all the project’s details, including the name of the
publisher are being kept under wraps.
“After everybody has seen Half-Life2
by Valve, it becomes obvious that the industry’s future is in the
individualization of both major and minor characters and making the game
environment more lively. Facial animation technology is the first and very
important step on the road to it. It was quite easy for us. We only had to
choose the best of the offered solutions”, said Anton Yudintsev, Gaijin
Entertainment’s CEO.
VP of Marketing for LifeMode
Interactive, Alan Gassanov added. “People are tied of games that contain bland
plastic faces with stony and lifeless looks. Human life simulation, human
mimicry and reaction on game actions with lip-synch combination are becoming
standard for next generation games”.
