You wanna know what happens when George Lucas' ideas get used in Star Wars? Jar Jar Binks… that's what. So it's good news that J.J. Abrams didn't want to use George Lucas' treatment for the Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens script.
In an interview with Cinemablend, George Lucas said:
"The ones that I sold to Disney, they came up to the decision that they didn't really want to do those. So they made up their own. So it's not the one that I originally wrote [on screen in Star Wars: The Force Awakens]."
Lucas had planned to make Star Wars: Episode VII, but taking on the project of a new trilogy would have been a huge time commitment, and it meant time away from his family. According to Comicbookmovie, Lucas' script wanted to focus on new characters instead of the trio from the Original Trilogy. J.J. Abrams wanted to keep those characters front and center.
Directed by J.J. Abrams, The Force Awakens stars Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Peter Mayhew, Kenny Baker, Max von Sydow, Andy Serkis, Domhall Gleeson, Adam Driver, John Boyega, Gwendoline Christie, Daisy Ridley and Anthony Daniels. It opens in theaters on December 18, 2015.
