Get a peek at the Steam Controller in action

Aside from getting a look at what the Steam Controller looks like, we haven't yet seen it in action. And considering many are holding out on judging it, for good reason, it's a great time for Valve to actually show its dedicated user base, just how the controller can be utilized in various genres.

For instance, in the video below, we first get a glimpse at how the controller works in Portal 2. Giving the left trackpad the ability to move your character and the right to use precision aiming. According to the video, the aiming is a 1 to 1 recreation of a mouse, whereas a joystick is always relative. Supposedly, this will give players an unprecedented edge in accuracy.

We also get to check out a more mouse and keyboard driven game, Civilization V. In this clip, the controller is moving the map screen with the left trackpad, while controlling mouse movements with the right. It all seems rather natural.

The video continues to also show off Counter Strike as well as the mouse-only game, Papers Please. Check it out below.

While it's nice to see the controller in action, it's still hard to say how it will feel in our hands. The notion of trackpads is both enticing and scary at the same time, especially since we're all trained to use joysticks or d-pads on controllers. Only time will tell, but I'm excited to try it out.
