The entertainment industry — video games and movies, included — love teasing things. New trailer coming out? Tease plans to tease the trailer with its own teaser trailer. That's where we're at these days. It's annoying, but it builds hype, I guess.
Anyway, if the rumors are true than DC fans are in for a taste of a treat this week, as Latino Review is reporting that director Zack Snyder will release a five-second clip from the teaser trailer this Thursday at 9:00am PST. Following the release, fans will be able to sign up to see the full trailer on Monday, April 20th, in a theater of your choice (that's listed, of course).
LR is also reporting that the trailer will be attached to Avengers: Age of Ultron, which releases May 1, 2015 in the U.S. However, this conflicts with previous reports that the Batman v Superman trailer would premiere before Warner Bros.' Mad Max: Fury Road movie in mid-May. Given that Mad Max and Batman v Superman are both Warner Bros.' films, I'm leaning towards the latter.
Regardless of which movie it's attached to, teasing five-seconds of the trailer and then having fans trek to a theater see the full thing sounds incredibly stupid. It's 2015, release your trailer online for all to see. We all saw what happened when Disney tried to pull a similar stunt last November with Star Wars: The Force Awakens; it leaked online almost immediately anyway.
Speaking of Star Wars, the five-second teaser will release an hour before the Star Wars: The Force Awakens panel at Star Wars Celebration on Thursday. So maybe it will be attached to the film? Who knows!
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is set to open in theaters on March 25, 2016.
