Go hands-on with the newly designed Steam Controller at GDC

A prototype of Valve's newly redesigned Steam Controller will be on display at the Game Developers Conference next week, the company announced today.

In January, Valve revealed that it had ditched the controller's touch screen in favor of a two diamond-patterned button layouts that serve as the D-pad and a remappable ABXY button configuration. The original touch pads are still included.

Above is a side-by-side comparison of the original prototype controller with the now-removed touch screen, and the new prototype with the more-traditional button layouts. You can go hands-on with the new Steam Controller at Valve's booth.
