God of War: Ascension multiplayer beta starts this winter

The multiplayer beta for the next God of War begins this winter, game director Todd Papy revealed.

PlayStation Plus subscribers will get dibs on the action. But if you're not a member, you can still gain entry in the beta through The Rise of the Warrior social experience on the new GodofWar.com (compatible with iOS and Android phones and tablets).

Participants can join either the Spartans or the Trojans in a graphic-novel-like story. You can then compete in challenges to earn your side a week of early access to the beta and 30 days of PlayStation Plus. You'll also be able to discover in-game unlocks for multiplayer, including exclusive weapons and armor for everyone who becomes a Champion of the Gods.

Papy also mentioned that the first of four gods players can can align themselves with in the beta is Zeus.

God of War: Ascension releases on March 12, 2013.
