Godus 2.0 launches — much less clicking, no more story mode (for now)

Developer 22Cans has released its first update to Peter Molyneux's god game Godus since October 2013.

"We’ve come to a point now where we feel that we have completed some huge, fundamental changes," designer Jack Attridge wrote in a Kickstarter update.

"Godus is very playable again, and there’s significantly more to it. As mentioned previously, the emphasis has been on the foundations rather than just additional visual content, so while the new features may not be initially apparent, you will unquestionably feel a significant difference to how Godus plays."

Because of the breadth of changes, previous saves are no longer compatible. Attridge says the new version has considerably less clicking, improved sculpting, smarter follower behavior, and a more intuitive interface. Godus has also undergone a redesign of the cards system — players discover cards and unlock them by applying stickers — and the leash has replaced the clumsy totem power, so it's easier to hold onto and drag followers.

22Cans has also introduced a new time-based game mode, additional god powers like the Rain of Purity, and a fresh homeworld.

Until it can improve them, the developer has removed "aspects of the game that we feel aren’t quite up to the quality of the new refinements": the story mode, battles, meteor, hubworld, extra ages, and extra settlements.

Godus is available as an Early Access title on Steam for $20. It entered beta in September last year.
