It is being reported that Google is planning to offer a subscription for YouTube that will allow subscribers to watch videos without having to view advertisements first. The plans for a subscription have not been made public by YouTube, but it should be available later this year.
The initial reaction to this news will be excitement for devoted YouTube viewers, but might strike fear in the hearts of YouTube content creators like PewDiePie. Content creators fear not, the informant that revealed this information to Bloomberg stated that creators will not get the short end of the stick:
"While we can't comment on ongoing discussions, giving fans more choice to enjoy the content they love and creators more opportunity to earn revenue are always amongst our top priorities."
The subscription service for YouTube has not been set, but it will cover all videos and will 'likely' include offline access. Where is this shift from Google coming from? It seems like they don't want to depend on advertisements for income.
