Grasshopper celebrates the seven-year anniversary of Killer7

Killer7 may have launched in North America on July 7, 2005, but developer Grasshopper Manufacture is recognizing today, July 9, as the game's seven-year anniversary. Some of you may think that's a bit odd, but the reason is that the game really launched in Japan seven years ago today. And if Grasshopper wants to recognize the Japanese launch of Killer7 as its official anniversary, then it can do so, because it's badass and no one tells Grasshopper what to do.

Admittedly, I've never actually finished Killer7, but over the past two years I've managed to get really far into the game on two separate occasions. It's probably not the most productive thing for me to restart the game from the beginning every time I stop playing, but alas that's how I play Killer7.

Funnily enough, I absolutely love this amazing experience despite never having finished it. That's probably because of just how insane it really is. This has Suda51's signature style all over it, and some may even argue that it's incredibly strange even for a Suda game. The story and characters are shrouded in mystery, the visual and audio presentation are remarkable, and the gameplay is so different from anything else that I've ever played, combining FPS, adventure, and on-rails (that you control, if that makes any sense) gameplay practically flawlessly.

Happy seven-year anniversary to Killer7. Will we ever see an HD remake? I don't think that's very likely, but it would certainly be cool. The game has gone on to become a cult favorite, and if you can track down a used copy, I'd highly recommend you do so, like, right now. Well, this has pretty much encouraged me to return to Killer7 and finally finish it. I know what I'll be doing this weekend.
