Halo 4 ‘Scanned’ launch trailer enters the mind of Master Chief

The latest Halo 4 trailer, which debuted last night during an episode of Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, might be the best one we've seen to date. Produced by David Fincher ("Fight Club", "The Social Network") and directed by Tim Miller ("Scott Pilgrim vs. the World", "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo"), the launch trailer — titled "Scanned" — takes a look at the backstory of Master Chief, and provides a glimpse of the new threat he'll encounter in Halo 4.

Continuing Microsoft's tradition of high quality production, Scanned is a mixture of CGI and live-action. We're using to seeing big budget productions for its Halo franchise, but this one seems to trump them all.

In it, Master Chief's mind is forcefully violated by a powerful new enemy in search of the legendary Spartan soldier's weakness. In searching for his weakness, he discovers the source of Master Chief's strength.

Halo is one of the most iconic sci-fi universes, with a depth that allows for amazingly cinematic and emotionally riveting stories.  The chance to tell a story that explores never-before-seen facets of Master Chief’s journey is an honor. Our goal is to deliver a blockbuster, Hollywood-quality trailer that raises the bar for the award-winning legacy of live-action Halo storytelling and gets fans stoked for the return of Master Chief," said Tim Miller.

I'd say goal accomplished. Check out the new launch trailer for Halo 4 above. The game is set to release for Xbox 360-exclusively on November 6, 2012.
