Halo: MCC gets upgrade on Xbox Series X|S, 120fps and 4K confirmed

Microsoft confirmed that the Halo: The Master Chief Collection will receive a substantial upgrade on its next-gen systems. Owners of an Xbox Series X|S consoles will experience the entire Halo anthology in brilliant 120 frames per second.

Sadly, there is no trailer just yet which details the upgrades in all its glory. But we can already imagine how insane playing the retro Halo titles on the new consoles must feel like.

Furthermore, you don’t even have to own the game. All these upgrades will be available for Xbox Game Pass users as well.

This also marks a bittersweet moment, as the new Xbox Series consoles will in the end launch with a Halo game after all. Sort of. While the actual new Halo game, Halo Infinite, was pushed into the next year after an infamous gameplay reveal backlash, at least The Master Chief Collection is now confirmed to be there.

The free upgrade for Halo: The Master Chief Collection is due out November 17th. Exactly one week after the Xbox Series launches. For disappointed fans of the legendary franchise who want to experience the next-gen vision on launch day, this news will probably be only like a band aid.

Still, it’s great to see that Microsoft is treating its premier franchises with the attention they deserve. 120fps gaming on a console is unheard of. There’s only one other game that is confirmed to offer that, Dirt 5.

Even on the PC, only a small subset of enthusiasts enjoys gaming at these insane framerates. Couple in that on the Series X, resolutions of up to 4K and you have a cutting-edge gaming experience in your living room.

It’s noteworthy that while only the more powerful Series X is targeting full 4K, the more affordable Series S will still perform at a blistering 120fps. Albeit at a lower resolution of 1440p. A pretty impressive feat for such a small and cheap gaming box.
