Microsoft and 343 Industries have announced Halo: Spartan Assault, the top-down action shooter previously available on Windows 8 devices, will be released for Xbox One on December 24, Christmas Eve. The Xbox 360 version will follow in January 2014.
Taking place between the events of Halo 3 and Halo 4, Spartan Assault — over the course of 30 missions — explores the first of the Spartan Ops program and dives deeper into the backstory of the Human-Covenant wars. You'll play the game through two characters: Commander Sarah Palmer and Spartan Davis. The console versions also add a new online co-op mode as well as teh Operation Hydra expansion which sees you encounter the Flood for the first time.
Those of you who have already purchased Spartan Assault for Windows 8 or Windows Phone 8 prior to December 15th will be eligible to buy the Xbox One version of the game for the discounted price of $4.99. Otherwise, Xbox One owners can expect to pay the full $14.99.
