The people at Valve don’t really make impromptu announcements. Take Gabe Newell at the CeBIT trade fair in March, when he was asked about the release of Counter-Strike 2. He flailed his arms and refused to answer the question, which essentially translates to: “Yes, we’re working on it.”
Valve fans have many questions but have received no answers. When’s Counter-Strike 2 coming? How about Portal 3? What’s with Half-Life 2: Episode 3?
“You will ever see [more Half-Life], yes. We are not done with Gordon Freeman’s adventures. I have nothing other than that to tell you today, but hang in there with us,” Valve marketing boss Doug Lombardi said to AusGamers in a recent interview.
While Lombardi didn’t exactly confirm Episode 3, but the assurance is better than nothing for fans. It could be an entirely new outing for Mr. Freeman, or he could make a cameo appearance in an iPhone game. But regardless of where we see him, at least Valve is still looking after one of its hall of famers.
The Half-Life series is one of Valve’s mainstay projects and the one that propelled them to stardom back in 1998. Half-Life 2: Episode 2 was the last of the series to be released way back in 2007, so a new iteration is overdue. Back in September of last year Valve said that “three big surprises” would be revealed in the next 12 months, and with E3 slowly creeping up, all signs point to June.
