Late last year, in December, to be precise, Warner Bros announced a few new games based on Harry Potter, one of them being a new augmented reality (AR) game like Pokemon Go, titled Wizards Unite, from the same developer, Niantic. The other game was called Hogwarts Mystery and it was announced as a mobile RPG.
Today, Warner Bros. has released a new trailer giving us a taste of what the game will be all about. From the start of the trailer, it’s clear this game is about “you” the player and not Harry Potter, despite the game’s official name, “Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery.” The trailer says this is “your” story, but it’s apparently still filled with book series’ (and fan’s) favorite characters like Dumbledore, Snape, Prof. McGonagall and yes, Hagrid. Players will be allowed to make their own character and attend school, take classes, make friends and more, just like a standard RPG.
What’s not entirely known is the timeline in which this game takes place. As the trailer shows, Dumbledore is alive (spoiler), Snape is still teaching at the school and is not headmaster, but we don’t see Harry, Hermione or Ron, so it’s possible this takes place before Harry ever attends Hogwarts, but still takes place after his birth.
Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery is due out Spring of 2018 for iOS and Android.
