In a recent interview, Sega Brand Manager Ben Harbone hinted at the possibility of HD ports of both Shenmue and Skies of Arcadia. Well, "hinted" may be an understatement at this point, because according to an anonymous source close to Sega, an HD port of Shenmue has already been created. Not only that, but it's also being rumored that Shenmue II got the HD treatment, as well.
"Shenmue HD is real [and has been finished] for well over a year," the mystery person told Gamerzines. "As is Shenmue II HD."
The source further commented that Sega opted out of releasing the HD remakes because it wanted to see if the Shenmue series would be revived. I believe Shenmue is one of those gaming trilogies that will never be finalized, right? And since that's the case, what the heck are you waiting for, Sega? Just release the darn games if you have them finished.
Again, this is all a rumor right now, so it may or may not be true. If it is, I think it's time Sega just realized that even if Shenmue III comes to fruition someday (it won't), the company should give the fans what they want. And what they want is Shenmue HD.
