Hasbro is auctioning off a limited edition "Wonky Mr. Potato-Head" to raise awareness about grocery stores refusing to sell misshapen produce.
We've all got pretty fond memories of growing up playing with a Mr. Potato-Head. We remember the hilarious Don Rickles voicing him in the Toy Story movies. We all had fun mixing and matching and rearranging his facial features. Now, Hasbro is looking to bring those childhood memories to a nightmare-ish place having just created what they call "Wonky Mr. Potato-Head".
While the new model looks horrifying, its actually been created for a good cause. It seems that Hasbro is partnering with UK charity organization, FareShare, to auction off the exclusive toy, with every penny earned going to the charity:
FareShare is a national charity that aims to support communities to relieve Food Poverty by providing food related support and services, including redistributing surplus products from the food & drink industry, to organisations working throughout the UK with disadvantaged and vulnerable people on the margins of society.
The new design is to signify protest against grocery stores who refuse to sell produce that is otherwise misshapen or not perfectly proportioned due to general buyers preferring the "better looking" fruits and veggies. Most of the time, those perfectly good items get discarded instead of sold simply because of they way they look. The "Wonky Mr. Potato-Head" is available for auction on ebay until Sunday, July 3rd, but you have to hurry, its already up to $313 American and the bids are growing daily!
