Hatred removed from Steam Greenlight

Controversial shooter doesn't fit in with Valve's vision

Well, that didn't take long. Destructive Creations' controversial mass murdering game Hatred has been pulled from Steam Greenlight, just hours after the announcement and release of a brand new teaser trailer.

Valve didn't get into specifics regarding the removal of the game, but I presume the controversial nature of playing as a suicidal mass murderer ruthlessly slaughtering civilians was enough for them to pull the plug.

"Based on what we've see on Greenlight we would not publish Hatred on Steam. As such we'll be taking it down," Valve's Doug Lombardi offered to Eurogamer.

In just the few hours it was listed on Greenlight, Hatred had garnered over a thousand comments, many of which seemed to support the small Polish developer. Of course, there was also an equal amount of criticism towards the premise as well. Here was the brief description of the game provided by Destructive Creations on the Steam Greenlight page.

Hatred fills your whole body. You’re sick and tired of humanity’s worthless existence. The only thing that matters is your gun and pure Armageddon that you want to unleash.

You will go out for a hunt, you will clear the American soil off humans with cold blood. You will shoot, you will hurt, you will kill, you will die. There are no rules, no compassion, no mercy, no point of going back. You are the lord of life and death now and you have the full control over lifes of worthless human scum.

You will also run, you will need to think, you will need to hide and fight back when armored forces will come to take you down. You will have no mercy for them, because they dare to come in your way.

Only brutality and destruction can clear this land. Only the killing spree will make you die spectacularly and go to hell.

Hatred is still set for release on PC in Q2 2015, but if Destructive Creations is going to succeed in their goal of giving players "pure gaming pleasure," they will have to do so without the help of Valve.

We've reached out to Destructive Creations for comment and will update once we learn more.
