Have an expensive Sony TV? You might be getting the PlayStation Now beta on June 30

Do you own one of Sony's 4K Ultra HD Bravia TVs with PlayStation Now capability? Probably not. But if you do, you'll be receiving access to PlayStation Now, the game streaming feature with ridiculous prices, on June 30th in the U.S., when Sony launches the Private Pilot service.

Sony announced on its blog:

Starting June 30, you’ll get a first glimpse at the upcoming PlayStation Now game streaming service with the launch of the Private Pilot Service. PlayStation Now allows you to play select PS3 games directly on your Sony TV, with no console required.  It will begin in the continental US on select 2014 Sony TV models, including all our 4KTVs as well as some of our 1080p HDTVs. At the start of the Private Pilot Service, a selection of PS3 game titles covering a wide range of genres will be available for individual rental. Various rental periods and prices will be offered during the Pilot.

The line of Bravia TVs with 4K resolution that will support PlayStation Now includes nine different models ranging from 49 to 85 inches, and priced between $2,099 and $24,999. That is not a typo. In my opinion, I wouldn't go out and buy one of these TVs to get PlayStation Now on June 30th. Then again, if you have the money, then we aren't playing by the same budgetary rules. More in line with my budget is the Sony line of 2K models, which start at $499.99

The models supporting PlayStation Now are:

4K TV

  • X950B
  • X900B
  • X850B

2K TV

  • W950B
  • W850B
  • W800B
  • W630B
  • W600B

If you haven't seen the leaked prices for games on PlayStation Now, here they are.
