HBO’s Watchmen Series is Coming, Starts Production

We knew that a Watchmen TV show was in the works for HBO. It was being created by Lost co-creator Damon Lindelof. The news of the show has been a bit scarce as of late, but today, Lindelof made a post on Instagram that definitely solidifies the show's progress. "Day One," he posts, showing the base of a retirement trophy given to Night Owl in the comic book.

That's basically it. A small but exciting gesture from the show-runner that a TV adaption of Watchmen is underway. No official statement has been released by him or from HBO, but the message is clear.

Lindelof's The Leftovers was also aired on HBO and concluded the series this summer. He's also worked on Prometheus and Star Trek Into Darkness. He also co-created and ran the show Lost.

The original comic Watchmen was created by Alan Moore and published by DC in 1986. It was illustrated by Dave Gibbons and is considered by many to be one of the greatest comic books ever released. The film, directed by Zack Snyder, netted $185 and was considered a modest success. It gained more popularity after the theatrical release and is still considered a good adaptation of the source material, notably Jackie Earle Haley's performance as Rorschach.
