In a surprise announcement today, Techland has announced that Hellraid, its upcoming dark fantasy game, will be ditching the last gen systems (Xbox 360, PS3) it was originally announced for, and will instead be releasing on Xbox One, PS4, and PC in 2015.
"The game is currently undergoing a transition to the Chrome Engine 6, the latest version of Techland’s proprietary technology, which is also used by the next-gen zombie survival horror, Dying Light. Thanks to this technology, Hellraid will benefit from a new physics-based lighting system, more detailed locations and character models, complex animations, advanced particle effects, and state-of-the-art AI systems," Techland explained.
In addition to the jump to next-gen, Hellraid has seen a number of other new features implemented in the past few months, many of which are highlighted in the trailer above.
First off, Hellraid will offer three different game modes: Story Mode where you explore the world and repel the forces of Hell; a replayable arcade-style, leaderboard-driven Mission Mode; and a new Arena Mode with wave-based survival gameplay. All modes are playable with up to four-player co-op.
Additionally, Techland has improved the combat system which now features one- and two-handed melee weapons, shields, magic staves, and ranged weapons. There's also weapon crafting, interactive environments, destructible objects and environmental traps. Hellraid will also allow players to create and customize characters with armor, clothes, and accessories. With a new class-free skill tree, you will be able to develop a character suited to your playstyle.
Hellraid is due out for Xbox One, PS4, and PC in 2015. However, a Steam Early Access release for PC is planned for autumn 2014. The Xbox 360 and PS3 versions are no longer in development, Techland confirmed to us.
