Here’s how Battlefield 4 uses Kinect on Xbox One

Back in April, DICE executive producer Patrick Bach said the studio would refrain from using the Xbox One's Kinect for gimmicky motion controls in Battlefield 4. Fast forward a few months and we've got the first details for how DICE's first-person shooter will make use of the peripheral's functionality.

According to Polygon, Battlefield 4 on Xbox One will use Kinect for both leaning and voice commands. Using Kinect head-tracking, you'll be able to peek around corners and fire without completely exposing yourself by simply moving your head. Although this is something that can easily be accomplished with a press of a button, the Kinect could offer a more natural solution. Or a gimmicky solution…

Voice commands are something Xbox users are fairly accustomed to. Requests and comments made with the Commo Rose can be detected and shared with a simple voice command. This feature isn't Xbox One exclusive, as it's available in all other versions of the game, but, again, it's something that can also be done with the controller. Of course, simply saying a command will allow you to keep both hands on the buttons that matter — the ones that fire.

Battlefield 4 is already available on Xbox 360, PS3, and PC. The PS4 and Xbox One versions will launch alongside the actual consoles on November 15 and November 22, respectively.

So what do you think? Is leaning with the Kinect something you'll take advantage of or is it merely a gimmick?
