Here’s how Titans are changing with Destiny’s December update

Since Bungie first announced that the December update for Destiny would bring tweaks to Guardian classes, we knew Titans were on the chopping block, more specifically the Sunbreak subclass (wielders of the OP Hammer of Sol). Well, our suspicions were correct. As expected, Destiny’s December update will be tweaking Titans, but it’s not nearly as bad as we thought. In a preview post on Bungie’s blog, the developer finally outlined the changes Titans can expect when the patch hits this week.

For starters, the Titan melee range is actually getting increased from 4m to 4.5m, a gain of 12.5%.

“This should improve the feeling of having short, little, inadequate T-Rex arms,” said BUngie senior design lead Sage Merrill. Titans’ Catapult Lift is also getting a slight bump to its initial velocity, which “should help it be more competitive with other Lift choices.”

Bungie also revealed that while Titan Sunbreakers have a rather high Kill/Death ratio (about 1.06), the other Titan subclasses, Defender and Striker, are low when compared to other Guardian classes. Although Bungie acknowledges that’s okay for the Defender since they’re “intended primarily as a support Class,” the developer admits “Living in the KDR basement is not okay for the Striker.”

“I know from other data that the Sunbreakers high KD can be attributed mostly to the Hammer of Sol,” Sage explained. “Most of the other Sub-Classes hover around 14% Super Kills in PvP. The Sunbreaker is closer to 19%, so that needs to come down.”

On that note, here are the changes coming to Titans with Destiny’s December update.

"Looking at these changes the first time, some may say we ruined the Solar Titan," Sage concluded. "I assure you we have not. They are still very, very good, but you'll find that out for yourself soon enough."

Destiny's December update is expected to arrive on Tuesday. In addition to these tweaks, Bungie is also overhauling Destiny's weapons, including certain exotics.
