As promised, Dish Network's television streaming service Sling TV will add HBO to its lineup before the premiere of Game of Thrones. Announced today, the HBO subscription option will be come available on April 11, a day before the new season of Game of Thrones debuts (April 12).
It won't come cheap though, as the package to add HBO will cost $15 per month, on top of the $20 Dish Network already charges for Sling TV's basic channel package. Considering this is still cheaper than what most cable or satellite companies charge, I don't expect too many complaints.
For those unfamiliar, Sling TV offers subscribers a $20 "Best of Live TV" Core package that includes a limited number of popular channels, like ESPN, TBS, HGTV, and most recently AMC; however, there are also plans to offer add-on packages with other channels for a mere $5 each., as well as a built-in rental movie service.
The HBO package includes live programming as well as VOD content. It will be available on all devices that currently support Sling TV, including Amazon Fire, Roku, Xbox One, Android and iOS devices, and computers. Subscribing to Sling TV's HBO package will not, however, come with a login for HBO's on-demand service, HBO GO, meaning you'll be limited to watching on Sling TV supported devices only as opposed to having access to HBO from other platforms that HBO GO is offered.
