Here’s why Destiny isn’t running at 60 FPS on the PS4 or Xbox One

Destiny is a very good looking game. It doesn't run at 60 frames per second, but is gorgeous nonetheless.

So why isn't it running at 60 FPS? We now have the answer.

GamesBeat talked with Jason Sussman, a senior environment artist at Bungie, and asked him straight up about the frame rate. Here is his response:

A lot has to do with performance. We're cross-platform, so we had to be very delicate with all four consoles, making sure they have the same experience, that it looks as good as it possibly can on all these consoles. A lot goes into that, from geometry to textures to post effects to particles to how many players you get on the screen. We're always balancing that out to make sure everyone gets the same experience.

So there you go. Destiny runs at 60 FPS because Bungie wanted all four versions of the game, Xbox 360 and PS3 included, to have the same experience. Disappointing news for owners of new hardware, but exciting news for those who have yet to abandon their old friends.
