Horizon Zero Dawn PC port confirmed for this Summer

The rumors were true. Industry insiders are redeemed. And most importantly, millions of PC gamers are jumping in joy at the official announcement that Horizon Zero Dawn is indeed inbound for the PC. None other than Sony Worldwide Studios President and former Guerilla Games head Herman Hulst confirmed that one of the best PlayStation 4 exclusives will soon be playable on Steam.

When Horizon Zero Dawn launched exclusively for the PS4 three years ago, it marked an important turning point for the Dutch game studio Guerilla Games. After years of creating PlayStation exclusives, Horizon finally became the studio’s long-deserved smash hit.

But Horizon’s importance is not stopping there. After weeks and months of rumors and insider scoops, today we get official word that GG’s brilliant open-world title will come to PC. It’s a monumental strategy shift for Sony who was among the most conservative when it comes to keeping their exclusives actually exclusive.

“I think it’s important that we stay open to new ideas of how to introduce more people to PlayStation, and show people maybe what they’ve been missing out on.
And to maybe put a few minds at ease, releasing one first-party AAA title to PC doesn’t necessarily mean that every game now will come to PC. In my mind, Horizon Zero Dawn was just a great fit in this particular instance. We don’t have plans for day and date [PC releases], and we remain 100% committed to dedicated hardware.”

All signs are pointing towards Sony testing out the waters by following Microsoft’s example of adopting a radically more lax approach to multiplatform game releases. It’s difficult to believe that Horizon is going to be just a one-off either, even though Hulst explicitly stated that this port doesn’t mean that all PS4 games will receive PC ports.

Nonetheless, for now, we know that the Horizon Zero Dawn Complete Edition will be coming out on PC via Steam sometime this summer.
